For small businesses

Invoicing built for small businesses

Whatever you do, you send invoices. Make them clean, branded, and easy for your customer to pay. Free, no per-invoice fees, no fake "trial" gating, and a recipient experience that gets you paid faster.

Why most invoicing tools annoy small business owners

The invoicing tools small businesses use most (Wave, Square Invoices, FreshBooks, QuickBooks Self-Employed) all started as something else (accounting, point of sale, expense tracking). The invoicing piece is bolted on, and it shows.

!

Setup takes longer than the first invoice

Some tools want your bank credentials, a chart of accounts, a tax setup wizard, and a sample invoice before you can send one. We let you send your first invoice in 30 seconds.

!

"Free" plans are gated for the wrong things

Custom invoice numbers behind a paywall. Removing the watermark behind a paywall. Adding a logo behind a paywall. Our free plan includes everything except the small "Powered by JupiterInvoice" footer.

!

Your customer's experience is an afterthought

Most tools focus on the sender's view. Your customer gets a generic "View Invoice" button leading to a generic page. JupiterInvoice treats the recipient experience as the product.

!

Switching costs feel high, but they aren't

Most invoicing migrations are: export your customers as CSV, re-add them in the new tool, send the next invoice. Total time: an hour. The friction is psychological, not technical.

What small business owners use JupiterInvoice for

A small business invoicing tool that doesn't cosplay as accounting software

JupiterInvoice does invoicing. We do not pretend to be your bookkeeping tool, your tax software, or your CRM. We integrate with the tools that already do those things, and we focus on the parts of invoicing that the other tools do badly:

 • Recipient editing for AP-heavy customers.
 • Version history with one-click revert.
 • Wire and ACH details on every invoice for B2B customers.
 • Quotes that flip to invoices when accepted.

Small business FAQ

What is the best free invoicing software for a small business?
JupiterInvoice, Wave, and Zoho Invoice are the most popular free options. JupiterInvoice is the lightest and fastest if you just want to send a great invoice; Wave bundles invoicing with free accounting; Zoho is part of a larger suite and is heavier on features. For most small businesses that already have an accountant or bookkeeper, JupiterInvoice's invoicing-only focus is the cleanest fit.
What information should be on a small business invoice?
A small business invoice should include: your business name, your address, your tax ID (if applicable), the customer's name and billing address, an invoice number, an issue date, a due date, line items with description and amount, the subtotal, taxes, and the total. Optional but recommended: a payment term (Net 15, Net 30), late fee policy, and your remit-to bank details if customers pay by ACH or wire. JupiterInvoice pre-fills your business details so you only fill in customer and line items.
Do I need to charge sales tax on my invoices?
It depends on your state, your industry, and your nexus rules. Most US states tax tangible goods; some tax services. International rules vary widely. JupiterInvoice supports per-line-item tax rates so you can apply tax selectively. Use our free sales tax calculator if you are unsure, and consult an accountant for nexus questions.
Can I accept credit card payments through JupiterInvoice?
Not directly. JupiterInvoice generates the invoice; payment goes through your existing channel (ACH, wire, your own Stripe / Square / PayPal link). This keeps the invoice itself flexible: B2B customers wire you, retail customers pay your card link. We don't take a per-transaction fee because we don't process the payment.
Can I send recurring invoices for monthly services?
Yes, manually for now. Save a draft invoice, duplicate it each cycle, send. Native automatic recurring invoicing is on the roadmap. If recurring billing is your primary need, Stripe Billing or Wave's recurring invoices may be a better fit today.
How do I migrate from QuickBooks or Wave to JupiterInvoice?
Export your customer list as CSV from your current tool. Import customers into JupiterInvoice (one click). Send the next invoice in JupiterInvoice. Your old invoices stay in your old tool for historical records. Most migrations take under an hour.
Does my customer need to sign up to view or pay an invoice?
No. The invoice is a private link. Your customer opens it, views the invoice, copies your bank details, marks it approved, and pays through their normal channel. No account, no password.
Is JupiterInvoice really free?
Yes. The full product is free for unlimited invoices, unlimited customers, and unlimited sender profiles. A small "Powered by JupiterInvoice" footer renders on each invoice; the paid plan ($12 a month) removes it. We do not gate features behind a trial.
