What is the best free invoicing software for a small business?

For most small businesses that already have an accountant or bookkeeper, JupiterInvoice's invoicing-only focus is the cleanest fit.
What information should be on a small business invoice?
A small business invoice should include: your business name, your address, your tax ID (if applicable), the customer's name and billing address, an invoice number, an issue date, a due date, line items with description and amount, the subtotal, taxes, and the total. Optional but recommended: a payment term (Net 15, Net 30), late fee policy, and your remit-to bank details if customers pay by ACH or wire. JupiterInvoice pre-fills your business details so you only fill in customer and line items.
Do I need to charge sales tax on my invoices?
It depends on your state, your industry, and your nexus rules. Most US states tax tangible goods; some tax services. International rules vary widely. JupiterInvoice supports per-line-item tax rates so you can apply tax selectively. Can I accept credit card payments through JupiterInvoice?
Not directly. JupiterInvoice generates the invoice; payment goes through your existing channel (ACH, wire, your own Stripe / Square / PayPal link). This keeps the invoice itself flexible: B2B customers wire you, retail customers pay your card link. We don't take a per-transaction fee because we don't process the payment.
Can I send recurring invoices for monthly services?
Yes, manually for now. Save a draft invoice, duplicate it each cycle, send. Native automatic recurring invoicing is on the roadmap. If recurring billing is your primary need, Stripe Billing or Wave's recurring invoices may be a better fit today.
How do I migrate from QuickBooks or Wave to JupiterInvoice?
Export your customer list as CSV from your current tool. Import customers into JupiterInvoice (one click). Send the next invoice in JupiterInvoice. Your old invoices stay in your old tool for historical records. Most migrations take under an hour.
Does my customer need to sign up to view or pay an invoice?
No. The invoice is a private link. Your customer opens it, views the invoice, copies your bank details, marks it approved, and pays through their normal channel. No account, no password.
